Who We Are

Sara Khan

I am a junior at Loyola University Chicago from the North Chicago suburbs pursuing a B.A. in Political Science, Global Studies, History, and Italian Studies. At the same time, I’m pursuing an accelerated M.A. in International Affairs. I’m interested in completing a J.D. with an emphasis International Human Rights Law.

My passion for international development first began via involvement at my local mosques, which cater to a large South Asian and MENA migrant/refugee community. I used my experiences to create my Girl Scout Gold Award project my senior year of high school – Chicago by Noor (a short film highlighting the struggles of a Syrian refugee assimilating into life in Chicago).

After spending my freshman year of university living in Rome and immersing myself in foreign cultures, I knew I wanted a career in international development. I organized and spoke at the 2023 University of Warsaw’s symposium on human rights and the war in Ukraine in Poland. Later that school year, I interned at the Centro Studi Americani, a nonprofit that builds bridges between the cultural and political worlds of Italy and America.

At Loyola, I’m involved with Loyola4Chicago (a service club that spends evenings providing dinner to women’s homeless groups in Uptown), Alpha Kappa Psi (a pre-professional business fraternity), and LUChaarg (a women’s fitness group). My combined experiences make me excited to contribute to organizations in Chicago and connect them to development opportunities around the world.
